How to Get Started Meditating

For those of you who experience too much stress, seek spiritual connectivity, or are just curious about meditation.  Here is the introduction for you.  Use this guide to get you started on meditating today.

First Misconception

You do not need to sit cross legged to meditate, that is just a common sitting stance in which people sit while meditating.  Sit any way you like, just make sure you are comfortable.  You can even stand if you like.  Try to avoid laying down because it might induce sleep.

Breathing Meditation

To do the most basic type of meditation all you need to do is close your eyes and take a deep breath.  Continue to breathe heavily until your breaths become more and more faint and your mind is clearing.

Second Misconception

You do not need to empty all of your thoughts to meditate, this can be extremely difficult for a beginner and will discourage you from ever meditating again.  Just try to relax and let it come naturally.

Breathing Meditation (Continued)

While doing a breathing meditation, make sure you are breathing in and out of your diaphragm. If you aren't sure how to do that, make sure when you breath your stomach expands and not your chest.

Third Misconception

You do not have to meditate for hours and hours a day.  You do not have to be a monk to meditate and spend all day doing this. A few minutes a day should show results immediately.

Breathing Meditation (Concluded)

The breathing meditation is one of six common meditations that help you relieve stress and increase conscious awareness.  If you are an experienced user of this meditation try Chakra Meditation.

Good Luck!
